15th of February 1943: for Paul Haentjes, born in 1927, it’s the beginning of a new life. Together with his classmates from secondary school he is one of the first students that are recruited as air force helpers. They immediately feel like grown-ups and full-fledged soldiers that are ready to go to war for their country. But the longer the war takes, the more threatening it gets for Paul and his friends. What first started as an adventure for the boys, soon turns out to be the rough reality of war, with machinery the boys can’t escape anymore and which ends deadly for many or in captivity.
